Austria Open 2021: Albert Ramos-Vinolas vs. Gianluca Mager Tennis Pick and Prediction

Austria Open 2021: Albert Ramos-Vinolas vs. Gianluca Mager Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Austria Open as Albert Ramos-Vinolas (4) meets Gianluca Mager in the Round of 16 on Wednesday July 28th, 2021.

Fourth seeded Spaniard Albert-Ramos Vinolas will attempt to get his season back on track here at the 2021 Austria Open in Kitzbuhel. He started the year positively but has since faltered, and his confidence will be waning here. Luckily for Ramos-Vinolas, his opponent Gianluca Mager is in similarly poor form, but without the pedigree that he has. Who will win and advance to the Quarter-Finals here at the Austria Open?

Albert Ramos-Vinolas is currently ranked #43 on the ATP Tour and is the fourth seed here at the 2021 Austria Open. The Spaniard has been in extremely poor form lately, losing in the First Round in six of the last seven events that he entered. He stopped the skid last week in Umag by reaching the Semi-Finals, and he will be hoping that he can continue that good form here in Kitzbuhel. Ramos-Vinolas is one of the most experienced clay-court players on the Tour and is simply too good for this poor form to continue. While his confidence will have been battered by his recent results, he has been handed a good draw and should be able to work the kinks out before the later rounds. He enters this match against Gianluca Mager as the big favorite and will be backing himself here.

Gianluca Mager is unseeded here at the 2021 Austria Open, and is ranked #74 on the ATP Tour. Like his opponent Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the Italian has been in poor form of late and will be hoping to turn his fortunes around here. He was fantastic in his First Round win over Dennis Novak, destroying the Austrian veteran 6-4, 6-0 by playing some very aggressive tennis. Mager is a very good mover on this surface, and took his break chances well. If he is able to return serve well against the Spaniard he will have a decent chance of the upset, as that is Ramos-Vinolas’s weakness. He enters this match as the underdog but will know that his opponent is vulnerable.

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and I am expecting a relatively comfortable win for Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The two men have been struggling lately, but I am backing the player with much more experience, and that is the Spaniard. He will be able to dig deep to pull out the win here, and is much more consistent than his opponent Gianluca Mager. It won’t be easy due to his shaky recent form, but expect him to tough it out and come out with the win, advancing to the Quarter-Finals here at the 2021 Austria Open.
