TennisSection previews the 2021 Umag Open as Albert Ramos-Vinolas (1) meets Duje Ajdukovic (WC) in the Second Round on Wednesday, July 21st 2021.
Will the local wildcard, Duje Ajdukovic, be able to get the biggest win of his career under his belt as he aims to impress the local crowd and make a name for himself? Will Albert Ramos-Vinolas show us how good he is on clay and how good he has been in 2021 as he begins his title campaign in the hopes of getting his 2nd title of the year? This will be an interesting match between a very talented and experienced clay-courter in Albert, and a wildcard who has nothing to lose in Duje. Who will make their way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Umag Open?
Duje Ajdukovic cruised through his First Round match against the qualifier, Andrea Collarini, beating the Argentine in straight sets 6-3/6-2. Duje came out ready to fight, and although the scoreline showed a dominant performance, the match was tight at some moments. Duje was pretty average in all of his aspects of his game, in the 50-60% range on both 1st and second serve. However, Andrea was only winning 36% of second serves, allowing Duje to feel strong on his return game. Duje will want to continue improving his game in his home country and get a huge win under his belt, but this is going to have to be against the very in form Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas will be looking to bounce back after his tough Second Round loss at the Hamburg Open last week against an opponent he has always had tough matches against, Federico Delbonis. Albert Ramos-Vinolas has been in great form all year on clay and he knows that he can definitely compete for the title here at the 2021 Umag Open, with his biggest threat potentially being Casper Ruud. Albert will not want to let someone beat him in his first match of the tournament, so he will not be taking Duje Ajdukovic lightly.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Duje Ajdukovic have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. Duje has just played and won his first ever ATP Tour match so he will be very happy, but even at his best he is still not at the required level to compete with Albert Ramos-Vinolas. Albert is strong on serve, so unlike his opening round match, Duje will not get many free points and he will have to fight for everything in long and draining rallies. Albert is determined not to lose back to back matches, and he won’t waste any time in his efforts to make his way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Umag Open.
