Federico Delbonis pulled off an amazing comeback in his Quarter-Final match against Benoit Paire, coming back from a set down and 4 match points down in the second set tiebreak to win 4-6/7-6/6-4. This match was great to watch because it was amazing from start to finish as Benoit Paire really came out to play. However, Federico stayed close at all times and it did pay off that he has been performing well all year compared to Paire. Now, Federico will know he has a strong chance at reaching the Final at the 2021 Hamburg Open, but he needs to be ready from the start as he meets Pablo Carreno Busta.
Pablo Carreno Busta put on a solid performance in the Quarter-Final, beating Dusan Lajovic in straight sets 7-6/6-3. The first set was very tight, with both players bringing out their A-game. However, as Pablo has played better throughout the entire year on clay, he was able to maintain his composure in the tiebreak to take it. Once that was under his belt, Lajovic did not seem ready to make the comeback and Pablo ran way with the match. Pablo will be very happy that Tsitsipas is out of the tournament now so he is the top dog here and the favourite for the title, but he needs to ensure he beats Federico Delbonis to give himself a shot at his second title of the year.
Pablo Carreno Busta and Federico Delbonis have met 7 times before, with Federico Delbonis leading the head to head 5-2. Federico won against him in 3 sets in Madrid earlier this year, but I see this match going the opposite way here. Federico did have to fight hard against Benoit Paire, and I think Pablo will be a step above that. Pablo will be very determined and confident now that he is the highest seed remaining, and he will give it his all and have more energy to make his way to the Final. It will be tight, but Pablo will make his way to the Final of the 2021 Hamburg Open.
