Wimbledon Championships 2021: Novak Djokovic vs. Denis Shapovalov Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Novak Djokovic (1) meets Denis Shapovalov (10) in the Semi-Finals on Friday July 9th, 2021.

Top seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic has steamrolled his way into the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, as he continues on his quest to equal the Grand Slam singles titles record. Next up in his path is young Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who will be contesting his first ever Grand Slam Semi-Final. While Shapovalov has been impressive here at Wimbledon, not many will give him a chance of getting much out of this match against the world number one. Can he do the impossible and cause the massive upset here at the All-England Club?

Novak Djokovic is ranked #1 on the ATP Tour, and is the top seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The Serbian Superstar is one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, and has won the title here at the All-England Club six times. Apart from surprisingly losing the first set in his opening match to Jack Draper he has cruised through the draw with relative ease. He was clinical in his Quarter-Final win over the in-form Marton Fucsovics, serving and returning extremely well to dominate his Hungarian opponent. Djokovic only lost his serve once all match, and set up a remarkable 14 break points, showing the form that he is in. He is the massive favorite over Denis Shapovalov here at Wimbleon, as his opponent has never beaten him before nor has he been at this stage in a Grand Slam.

Denis Shapovalov is currently ranked #12 on the ATP Tour, and is the tenth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Like his opponent Novak Djokovic he faltered in his First Round match but otherwise has been very impressive. The Canadian has been on the grass for a while, playing two warm up events and it has shown, as he is getting more and more comfortable on the surface with every match. After dominating 2019 Semi-Finalist Roberto Bautista Agut in the Round of 16, he showed remarkable grit to come back from two sets to one down against Karen Khachanov to set up a date with the world number one in his first Grand Slam Semi-Final. While he is the huge underdog here at Wimbledon against arguably the greatest player of all time, Shapovalov has massive self-belief and is playing freely and seemingly without pressure, a dangerous combination for opponents.

This will be the seventh meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with the world number one dominating the head to head 6-0. Denis Shapovalov has only ever won two sets against Djokovic, in a very one sided series. Despite this being a Grand Slam Semi-Final, this is a relatively easy match to predict, and it almost definitely will result in a comfortable win for Novak Djokovic. Simply put, he is practically impossible to defeat at this stage in a Major tournament, and he very rarely loses to players not named Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal in Grand Slams. Denis Shapovalov has been very impressive here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and has proven that he is a force to reckon with in the future, but his run will end here. Novak Djokovic will win here, and sets up a date with history as he seeks to win a record 20th Grand Slam title here at Wimbledon.
