Hubert Hurkacz has been cruising through the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, winning all of his matches in straight sets. In the Round of 32, Hubert Hurkacz beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets 6-3/6-4/6-2. Hubert will be very confident coming into this match because he is very strong in these conditions. Hurkacz will know that he will have a very tough road ahead as he meets Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16, but he will also have some confidence that he plays similar tennis to Marin Cilic who had early success against Medvedev, but Hurkacz has more stamina as he is younger.
Daniil Medvedev put on a great comeback win against Marin Cilic, coming back from 2-0 sets down to win in 5 sets 6-7/3-6/6-3/6-3/6-2. Marin Cilic was superb in those first two sets, but Medvedev is never scared when his back is against the wall and he changed his game up to make the great comeback. This win was very important for Medvedev because he was able to beat a grass veteran who has reached the Final in Wimbledon. Medvedev will need to be at his best in this Round of 16 match against Hubert Hurkacz because he is a similar player to Marin, but younger.
Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. This will be a very tight encounter, similar to Medvedev’s previous match. Although Hurkacz has not lost a set yet here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, he will lose 3 here against Medvedev. I still see Medvedev losing a set to Hurkacz because he is similar to Cilic, but Medvedev will not have to comeback from 2-0 down again as he has learnt his lesson here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
