Will Felix Auger-Aliassime be able to cause a huge upset to make his way to the Quarter-finals here in London as he has played well on grass this year? Will Alexander Zverev continue to show us his consistent and amazing tennis at Grand Slams recently? Both players can win this match if they are playing at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 16 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Felix Auger-Aliassime did not have to do too much in his Round of 32 match against Nick Kyrgios after he lost the first set 6-2 as Nick picked up an abdominal injury which allowed Felix to win the second set easily at 6-1 before Nick retired. If Nick was at 100% and did not injure himself during the match I would not see Felix being able to win that match just because of the momentum Nick had behind him. Now, Felix Auger-Aliassime has been handed an easy path to the Round of 16, but he needs to ensure he is at his absolute best as he meets one of the most in form players of the tournament in Alexander Zverev.
Alexander Zverev had to come back from a set down in his Round of 32 match against Taylor Fritz to beat the American in 4 sets 6-7/6-4/6-3/7-6. Alexander started off in good form but not at his best, and once the match was very tight in the tiebreak, Fritz was just more willing to give it his best. Alexander Zverev, however, showed great composure after that first set and made the comeback in great fashion. Alexander will know that he is in great form this week, and although he lost his first set of the tournament against Fritz, it can be seen as good for him as he was able to fight back from behind. Zverev now meets a player he knows well in Felix Auger-Aliassime and he knows it will be a tough battle in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime have met 3 times before, with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 3-0. Felix has never won a set off of Zverev, with Zverev always dominating their encounters. However, they have never met on grass. Zverev is a solid player on all surfaces and he has shown us this over the years, but Felix loves the playing conditions on grass. This will still not be enough to find a first win over Zverev, especially when he’s never won a set against him. However, I might see Felix getting his first set win against Zverev. Alexander will still win in the end though as he has just been superb here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
