Nick Kyrgios put on a great performance in the Round of 64, beating the Italian, Gianluca Mager, in straight sets 7-6/6-4/6-4. Nick Kyrgios is improving and it is good to see because when this guy is at his best, especially on a grass court, we have seen him beat all of the best players in the world. Nick said he wants to go deep here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, but if he is to do so, he needs to ensure he is at his absolute best as he meets the always tough Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Round of 32. Can Nick continue to win?
Felix Auger-Aliassime had to fight very hard to win his Round of 64 match against his fellow youngster, Mikael Ymer, beating him in 4 sets 6-4/4-6/7-6/6-1. The first 3 sets of the match were very tight, but Felix was able to get a 2-1 lead after a very up and down third set. This gave him the momentum entering the 4th set and Mikael Ymer was just too tired and hurt from both his previous 5 set match and the fall he took on the grass during this match. Felix will be happy that he won, but he will not be able to get anything going against Nick Kyrgios if he is going to perform like he did in those 3 first sets.
Nick Kyrgios and Felix Auger-Aliassime have met 1 time before, with Felix Auger-Aliassime leading the head to head 1-0. They met on grass at the Queen’s Open in 2019 where Felix won an extremely tight 3 setter 6-7/7-6/7-5. Nick Kyrgios will remember that loss and that he was not preparing well enough for it. However, here at such a big event like Wimbledon, I think Nick is very determined to make a name for himself again. Felix will definitely push this match to the limits, with some great tennis being played from the Canadian, but Nick will use his experience, amazing game, and get the win under his belt to make his way to the Round of 16 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
