Will Elena Vesnina be able to cause a big upset early here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships? Will Coco Gauff perform strongly as she looks to reach further than the fourth round in the tournament where she originally made a name for herself in 2019? This will be an interesting encounter, but only one will make their way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Elena Vesnina put on a solid performance in the opening round, beating the tough Martina Trevisan in straight sets 7-5/6-1. The opening set was so tight with both players being able to compete and perhaps even steal the set. However, once Elena Vesnina won the set, Martina Trevisan lost all her confidence and lost the second set easily. Eleva Vesnina will be happy with that win, but she knows that if she expects for her opponent to be as easy in the second set as Trevisan was, she does not know much about who Coco Gauff is. Can Vesnina cause the upset?
Coco Gauff also came through a straight sets win in the Round of 128, beating Francesca Jones 7-5/6-4. Francesca Jones gave it her all in that match as she knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for her as a wildcard. Coco Gauff was able to show more composure and I am sure this is because of how much she has grown as a player since she made her debut here at Wimbledon in 2019. Coco Gauff will want to get an easier win under her belt in the Round of 64, but she now meets a tough opponent in Elena Vesnina and she will need to be at her best here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Coco Gauff and Elena Vesnina have never met before, with this being their first meeting. Elena Vesnina did put on a solid win in the Round of 128, however, her opponent was nowhere near the level of Coco Gauff. Coco Gauff has shown great composure recently and even when she is down, she is able to turn matches around. Coco Gauff will not want to waste time on court as she has said before, and she wants to get more dominant performances under her belt. I expect for it to be tight at some moments, but Coco will make her way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
