TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Pablo Carreno Busta (11) meets Sam Querrey in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, June 29th 2021.
Will Sam Querrey continue to play well on grass and back up his solid week in Mallorca here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships? Will Pablo Carreno Busta get his grass court season going strongly? Both players are capable of winning this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Pablo Carreno Busta put on a solid week at the Mallorca Open last week, reaching the Semi-finals where he was 1-0 set up against Daniil Medvedev before he lost in 3 sets. Pablo Carreno Busta is not really known for his tennis on grass but he has been showing us some solid signs. Now that he is here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Pablo will want to continue playing this strongly, but he meets a man who also played very well on grass in Mallorca in Sam Querrey. Will he be able to beat the grass lover?
Sam Querrey had one of the best weeks of tennis that he has had in a while, reaching the Final of the Mallorca Open where he eventually lost to the No.1 seed, Daniil Medvedev, in straight sets 4-6/2-6. Sam Querrey needed a week of tennis like that because this now gives him the belief and confidence necessary at the perfect time. Entering the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Sam knows that he can be somewhat a dark horse causing some upsets against some big names early on. Querrey, however, will have to come through a fighter in Pablo Carreno Busta right from the start.
Pablo Carreno Busta and Sam Querrey have met 1 time before, with Pablo Carreno Busta leading the head to head 1-0. They met in 2019. They both played well last week in Mallorca and they can both win this match if they are at their best. However, grass suits Sam Querrey’s game much more than Pablo’s. Sam made it one step further than Pablo in Mallorca, and he will use the confidence gained to get the tough win here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships to make his way to the Round of 64.
