Who will come out on top in this battle of the lucky losers here at the Viking International? Will it be the unknown Max Purcell who was able to knock out the top seed, Gael Monfils, in the Round of 16? Will it be the experienced veteran, Andreas Seppi, who has remainded in the top 100 for more than 10 years in a row? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Eastbourne Open. Who will it be?
Max Purcell fought through yet another extremely tight match here at the Viking International, causing a huge upset by beating Gael Monfils in the Round of 16 to make his way to the Quarter-finals in 3 sets 6-4/5-7/6-4. Max Purcell is going to be so happy that he was handed a lucky loser spot into the tournament even though he didn’t qualify as he is now in the Quarter-finals and he will have a strong chance to make his way to the Semi-finals. Max is unknown, therefore preparing a gameplan against him is not easy for players who don’t know what to expect. However, he now meets Andreas Seppi who has seen and played against every type of player with his vast experience.
Andreas Seppi has been in strong form this week here at the 2021 Eastbourne Open after being handed a lucky loser spot as well. Seppi beat Yoshihito Nishioka and the up and coming Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets, most recently 6-2/6-3. Andreas Seppi has so much experience, having played on the ATP Tour for 19 years now and having played nearly 800 matches throughout his career. Andreas will want to continue using his experience on grass to build momentum going into Wimbledon next week. Andreas will know he meets a tough challenge however in Max Purcell now.
Andreas Seppi and Max Purcell have met 1 time before, with Andreas Seppi leading the head to head 1-0. Although Max Purcell has now been able to reach the Quarter-finals by beating the top seed, Gael Monfils, however, he will struggle now against an opponent who has also beaten some big names, but he has done it in more convincing fashion. Andreas Seppi has already beaten Max Purcell just last year, so he will know what to expect, and he will not let a player ranked nearly 200 spots below him beat him in an important match to show everyone that he can still compete. I see Seppi making his way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Eastbourne Open.
