TennisSection previews the 2021 Queen’s Open as Matteo Berrettini (1) meets Cameron Norrie in the Final on Sunday June 20th, 2021.
Unseeded Brit Cameron Norrie is in the form of his life here at home at the 2021 Queen’s Open. He has surprisingly reached the Final by playing some fantastic tennis. Can he take it one step further by upsetting top seed Matteo Berrettini and claiming his first ATP title? Both men have played outstanding tennis this week, who will win and take the title here at Queen’s?
Matteo Berrettini is the top seed here at the 2021 Queen’s Open and is ranked #9 on the ATP Tour. The powerful Italian has been having an outstanding season so far this year and has continued that momentum here at Queen’s. His huge serve and powerful groundstrokes are major weapons on this surface, and he has been dominating his opponent so far. He defeated the British duo of Andy Murray and Dan Evans in abck to back matches, and really is in supreme form. Berrettini continued his fine momentum with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alex De Minaur who had just beaten Stuttgart champion Marin Cilic earlier in the event. In this type of form it is hard to not consider the Italian the favorite to claim his fifth career title here at the Queens’s Open against Cameron Norrie.
Cameron Norrie is currently ranked #41 in the ATP world rankings and is unseeded here at the 2021 Queen’s Open. The Brit has been having an outstanding season so far this year, and this will already be his third Final in 2021. He is yet to win his first title, and he is up against it here against the top seeded Matteo Berrettini who is also in fine form, and his powerful game is sure to be a huge test for him. His ultra-consistent lefty game causes a lot of issues for his opponents but it really is a surprise that has been able to reach this stage. He upset second seeded Denis Shapovalov in the Semis with a very measured performance. While he is the huge underdog here in the Final, there is always a chance that the flashy Berrettini commits a lot of errors due to his low percentage power game.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and it is seemingly an easy match to predict. Cameron Norrie has done extremely well to reach this Final, and it is a feat that no one could have predicted. However, Matteo Berrettini is simply on a different level to the Brit, and I expect him to win his first grass-court title here at the 2021 Queen’s Open without many issues. He is too powerful and has been serving incredibly well. Norrie is a fighter and is sure to give it his best shot, but he ultimately will fall short here and lose his third Final of 2021. Matteo Berrettini will be the 2021 Queen’s Open champion, setting him up well for a run at Wimbledon.
