TennisSection previews the 2021 Halle Open as Roberto Bautista Agut (6) meets Sebastian Korda in the First Round on Monday June 14th, 2021.
Sixth seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut will face rising star Sebastian Korda of the United States in the First Round of the 2021 Halle Open. While neither man is known for their grass court prowess this is still expected to be a high-quality match between two very good players. Both of them will be seeking a strong start to their Wimbledon preparations, who will come out on top?
Roberto Bautista Agut is currently ranked #11 on the ATP Tour and is the sixth seed here at the 2021 Halle Open. The Spaniard is widely considered one of the most hardworking and consistent players on the circuit and is a dangerous opponent regardless of the surface. He has been having a relatively modest season by his high standards, with his win-loss record being 19-13. RBA will be hoping to kick-start his 2021 season here in Halle, however this has definitely been his weakest surface over the years. However, his first ever ATP title at ‘s-Hertogenbosch came on grass, showing what he is capable of. Despite his preference for hard and clay he should still be considered the favorite here over Sebastian Korda who is a rising star of the game but is making his debut on grass.
Sebastian Korda is ranked #50 on the ATP Tour and is one of the fastest rising stars on the circuit. At the young age of 20 he has already claimed his first career title in Parma and will be looking to build on that success. After a very disappointing French Open campaign he will be very eager to bounce back quickly here at the 2021 Halle Open, but has been given a very tough draw here against Roberto Bautista Agut. While Korda has never played a match on grass at this level, his game should suit the surface very well with his huge serve and powerful groundstrokes. He has exactly the type of game to blow the Spaniard off the court, which is necessary to defeat him. The young American is considered the underdog here but should not be discounted as he is capable of causing the upset in Halle.
This will be the first meeting between the two players throughout their careers, and it is sure to be an entertaining match. Both men play an attacking game with Sebastian Korda in particular having some serious firepower. I expect this to be a long and exciting battle, but ultimately I think the Spaniard will prevail. His vast experience will prove very useful here against the youngster, and he should have enough to get through a tough match here. I think it will very likely go the distance but Roberto Bautista Agut will win here, advancing to the Second Round at the 2021 Halle Open.
