Both players can win this match if they are playing their best tennis, but only one will make their way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Parma Open. Who will it be?
Jaume Munar was playing some strong tennis in the Round of 16 against Benoit Paire, winning the first set 7-5, and leading the second set 3-1 until Benoit Paire decided to retire due to ‘injury’ even though it is most likely because he could not be bothered to play anymore as he was losing. Jaume Munar will be happy but also displeased with that result as he has beaten an experienced opponent, but Paire also played way below his level. Jaume will now have to play another very experienced Frenchman, but now this opponent is actually someone who is very determined to win and improve as he has had some hardships, Richard Gasquet.
Richard Gasquet came through a 3-set match against the clay loving Spaniard, Pedro Martinez, beating him 6-3/3-6/6-3. Richard Gasquet is becoming a bit more consistent over the last month, being able to string some wins together in tight matches. Richard has one of the most beautiful games the tennis world has seen with his flamboyant, aggressive, one-handed backhand, but yet seemingly easy game flow. Richard Gasquet will want to give it his best for the next year or so as he looks to improve his level after suffering from many injuries over his career, and if he wants to best prepare himself for Roland Garros next week, he will have to beat Jaume Munar to keep building momentum.
Richard Gasquet and Jaume Munar have never met before, with this being their first encounter on the ATP Tour. Both players if they are playing their best can win this match. However, I think that Richard Gasquet will win this one as he has more experience and his game style of fast hitting, with an amazing one-handed backhand which is so well disguised to not make you understand where the ball will be hit, will be too much for the young Spaniard. Richard will continue improving his game, getting back to his best, and building momentum for Roland Garros by making his way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Parma Open.
