Andrej Martin came through a very tight first round match here in Sardegna, beating the favourite Jiri Vesely in 3 sets 6-4/2-6/6-1. Martin was not expected to come through this match and he was definitely ready to shock everyone by getting ahead in the match early. Martin has a lot of experience in the tennis world, but mostly focusing on the Challenger Tour as he has never really found much success on the ATP Tour. Martin’s playing style and the fact that it’s not very known by Taylor Fritz might help him get him involved in some important games. Can Andrej Martin come out here and cause the upset?
Taylor Fritz and Andrej Martin have never met before, and I think that this match is going to be a two setter in favour of the young American, Taylor Fritz. Although this is going to be a 2 set victory for Fritz at the 2021 Sardegna Open allowing him to make his way to the Quarter-finals, I still see the first set being tight. Taylor Fritz needs to get accustom to the clay-court conditions and this might take a few games in the first set. However, Fritz will edge the first set, and once he has that in the bag, he will continue cruising through his match and make his way to the Quarter-finals.
