TennisSection previews the 2021 WTA Miami Open as Elina Svitolina (5) meets Anastasija Sevastova in the Quarter-finals on Tuesday March 30th, 2021.
Will Anastasija Sevastova be able to get her biggest win of the week as she looks to cause the upset against Elina Svitolina to book a spot in the Semi-finals? Will Elina Svitolina be able to back up that incredible comeback performance against Petra Kvitova in the Fourth Round on Monday? This is definitely going to be a very tight match here in the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Miami Open, but only one will come through to the Semi-finals. Who will it be?
Anastasija Sevastova came through an easy Fourth Round match, beating the in form Ana Konjuh in 2 sets, 6-1/7-5. Anastasija has a lot of experience on the WTA Tour and this week it all seems to be falling into place for her, well until now. Anastasija Sevastova will have to ensure she is at the absolute top of her game here in the Quarter-finals as she knows that anything less against Elina Svitolina will more than likely result in a trip to the airport. Anastasija Sevastova, however, has a lot of belief in her game, and I am sure she will be ready for the fight and to put it all on the line to make the Semi-finals of a big tournament for the first time in a very long time.
Elina Svitolina put on an amazing comeback performance in the Fourth Round against the favourite coming into the match, Petra Kvitova. Svitolina came back from a set down to win in 3 tight sets 2-6/7-5/7-5. Svitolina started off very slowly in the match, but she knew that if she was able to keep herself in the match for a long time, she would eventually be able to outwear her opponent. Svitolina seems to now be over her right-wrist issue she had in her first matches, and she will want to ensure she performs at her best as she knows she can make her way very far here, and perhaps even win the title, as she meets Anastasija Sevastova in the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Miami Open.
Elina Svitolina and Anastasija Sevastova have met 3 times before, with Elina Svitolina leading the head to head 2-1. The last time these two met was 2 years ago at the Beijing Open where Svitolina won in e sets (4)6-7/6-1/6-2. This is definitely going to be a tight match as both players have been playing some great tennis all week here in Miami, but going off of their Fourth Round matches, the resilience, determination, and passion shown by Elina Svitolina are tough to ignore. Elina has a great game when she is confident and backs herself, and I don’t see a world where she does not come out here playing her best after her match on Monday. It will be tight, but it should be won by Elina Svitolina.
