Miami Open 2021: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Kei Nishikori Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Kei Nishikori (28) in the Third Round on Monday, March 29th 2021.

Will Kei Nishikori come out here and get one of his biggest wins under his belt in over a year and a half as he looks to get back on top of his game? Will Stefanos Tsitsipas be able to cruise through yet another match here in Miami as he looks to show people that he can actually win big tournaments? We are in for an extremely tight and exciting encounter on Monday, but only one will make their way to the Fourth Round. Who will it be?

Kei Nishikori came through an extremely tight and thrilling 3-set match against Aljaz Bedene in the Second Round, beating him 7-6(6)/5-7/6-4. Nishikori is in great form at the moment and he is improving with every match that he plays. It is great to see Kei Nishikori playing some great tennis, and I want to see him improving every week as he will be putting on shows every week at this level. Nishikori will want to get some very big wins under his belt before the Tokyo Olympics this summer and I am sure that if he is able to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas here in the Third Round of the 2021 Miami Open, he will be able to play with even more confidence and momentum. How will he fare against Tsitsipas?

Stefanos Tsitsipas eased through his Second Round match here at the 2021 Miami Open, beating Damir Dzumhur in straight sets 6-1/6-4. Tsitsipas has a big point to prove nowadays, wanting to show everyone that he can actually win big titles as he is currently 0-8 in Finals at an ATP 500 and ATP 1000 level. Tsitsipas has his best opportunity nowadays to win here in Miami as none of the Big 3 are playing, but he will not be getting himself to think about that just yet as he is meeting a very tough opponent in Kei Nishikori. How will Tsitsipas be able to come through a very tight and draining match against a very experienced player in Nishikori in the Third Round?

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Kei Nishikori have met once before, with Kei Nishikori leading the head to head 1-0. They met at the 2018 Tokyo Open where Kei Nishikori won in straight sets. Back then, Nishikoti was the much better player of the two, however, since 2019, Tsitsipas’ career has skyrocketed. This is definitely going to be a very tight encounter as both players have been playing some great tennis recently, but only one player will make their way to the Fourth Round here at the 2021 Miami Open. If Nishikori was in his prime, no chance that Tsitsipas wins this one, but he is not, and I see the young gun Stefanos Tsitsipas making his way to the Fourth Round.
