TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Andrey Rublev (4) meets Marton Fucsovics (29) in the Third Round on Monday, March 29th 2021.
Will Marton Fucsovics be able to finally get a win under his belt against Andrey Rublev as he meets him for the fourth time in the last month? Will Andrey Rublev continue doing his business as usual as this means beating Marton Fucsovics every week in the early rounds of the tournaments he participates in? Both players have been in great form in the last month, but only one will make their way to the Fourth Round of the 2021 Miami Open. Who will it be?
Marton Fucsovics put on a very solid display in the Second Round, beating the in form Thanasi Kokkinakis in 3 tight sets 7-6(3)/(4)6-7/6-4. Fucsovics will be very happy with that victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis, but at the same time, he will be very disappointed that he has to meet Andrey Rublev once again. Fucsovics mouthed to Rublev just a couple of weeks ago at the Dubai Open, ‘I don’t want to meet you any more this year’, and in the next tournament he meets him again. Marton Fucsovics just doesn’t seem to be able to handle the speed, precision, and consistency behind Andrey Rublev’s shots. If Fucsovics changes his playing style and figures out the formula, he will be ecstatic to cause the upset, but will he have the self-belief after many losses to Rublev recently?
Andrey Rublev absolutely destroyed Tennys Sandgren in the Second Round, beating the experienced American in straight sets 6-1/6-2. Rublev is ready to go this week and he showed great tennis in the Second Round. Andrey Rublev will be feeling very confident coming into the Third Round as he knows he is in great form, and he knows that his opponent will not be feeling confident in this match as he has lost to him twice in the last month. Rublev will come out here and be looking to cruise through yet another match against Marton Fucsovics, but will he come out here too confident and forget that he won those matches because he worked hard, and potentially leave the door open for an upset?
Andrey Rublev and Marton Fucsovics have met 6 times before, with Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 4-2. Andrey Rublev has won his last 4 matches against Marton Fucsovics, and most recently he won at the Dubai Open a few weeks ago, winning in straight sets 7-5/6-2. Unfortunately for Marton Fucsovics, I just do not see him getting anything out of this match, both due to the form of Andrey Rublev, but also because he will not be confident in his game against Rublev. I don’t see this going the distance, and I see the very in form Andrey Rublev making his way to the Fourth Round of the 2021 Miami Open in straight sets.
