This match is sure to be a very entertaining one between two top 50 players. Both Grigor Dimitrov and Miomir Kecmanovic are back on their preferred playing surface (hard courts) and will be ready and rearing to go here at the 2021 Acapulco Open. They both seemed in great form in their First Round matches, both winning in straight sets. Can the young Serb cause the upset here? Or will Dimitrov continue on his path to yet another Acapulco Open Final? Regardless of the outcome it is sure to be a great match. Who will win and advance to the Quarter-Finals?
Grigor Dimitrov is currently ranked #17 in the world and is a former top five player. After a disappointing past few years due to lack of form and fitness he has been much improved in 2020-2021. He seems to be playing with a renewed motivation and is steadily improving his ranking. He played very well in a tough Opening Round match against Adrian Mannarino, showing his experience as he claimed a very close first set. The Bulgarian broke twice in the second set and was up 3-0 when his opponent was forced to retire due to the injury. Dimitrov will be grateful for the extra rest and will be ready for this match against Miomir Kecmanovic. He enters this match as the favorite, but will know that his opponent is very dangerous on hard courts.
Miomir Kecmanovic is currently ranked #42 in the world and is known as one of the rising young stars of the ATP Tour. He enters this tournament in impressive form, reaching the Semi-Finals in Buenos Aires last week. However, that was a clay court event and will hold little bearing on this match apart from giving him some confidence. The young Serbian was impressive in his First Round win over Feliciano Lopez, who is still a very dangerous opponent on hard courts. He won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 but the only problem with that win was that it wouldn’t have helped his rhythm much as it was filled with short points. He enters this match against Grigor Dimitrov as the underdog and it will be interesting to see how much he has acclimatized to this surface in such a short period of time.
The two players have never faced each other on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. I expect this to be a very entertaining match between two very good players. However, I think that Dimitrov has a huge advantage here and should come away with the win. Miomir Kemanovic has not played much hard court tennis lately, having spent time on clay in South America for the past few weeks. If he was match ready then we could be in for a battle, but I expect Grigor Dimitrov to get the win here at the 2021 Acapulco Open. Kecmanovic will still put up some resistance, but ultimately Dimitrov will advance to the Quarter-Finals.
