Two of the most in-form players during the week will clash in the final of the Libema Open. I don’t think it came as a surprise to see Kudermetova and Alexandrova squaring off in the championship match. Neither player has dripped a set, with the Kudermeotva losing the fewest number of games in her run to the final (just 17 in four matches). Although the level of competition was slightly weaker, the two Russians were largely invincible.

This is a rematch of last year’s semifinal at this very tournament, with Alexandrova crushing her compatriot 6-3, 6-1, and going on to win the title. You reckon Kudermetova will be hurting from that defeat. They were due to face each other in Adelaide earlier this season, but Alexandrova withdrew before the match. Kudermetova has been in a comfort zone for most of this week breezing through her matches. While it’s always ideal to have fresher legs for the final, it can be something of a double-edged sword having a cushy draw. And that could potentially benefit a more tested Alexandrova.
