Wawrinka vs Dimitrov Prediction

Stan Wawrinka leads Grigor Dimitrov 7-5 in their head-to-head on the ATP Tour. They last played each other in 2020 at the Mexican Open where Dimitrov won in straight sets. On clay, the h2h is 2-2, with Stan winning in three tiebreak sets at the 2019 Roland Garros, their last clash on the dirt. Wawrinka has had a match already, winning his first round at the Rome Masters in dominant fashion, sweeping past Ilya Ivashka 6-2, 6-4 in windy and sodden conditions. Dimitrov had a bye, so he’ll need to step up big time if he is to take down Wawrinka in the battle of the one-handers. Obviously, both players have recorded three wins on the surface in 2023, but Wawrinka has been more clutch on clay than Dimitrov in the past month, with his ability to generate sufficient pace behind the return earning him wins over Griekspoor, Cressy, and now Ivashka. Dimitrov is certainly superior with the all-round game than that trio, but we fancy Wawrinka to take at least a set here.
