This will be an interesting one, where we have the American No. 2 taking on a Spanish veteran who is playing his farewell season on the ATP Tour. Frances Tiafoe scored a solid win over Yoshihito Nishiokia, taking him out 7-6 (6) 6-4. It was a battle, but Tiafoe was the stronger of the two players and he’ll be feeling confident coming into the Round of 16 as he takes on Feliciano Lopez. Lopez is playing one of his last-ever events here, and is not in the shape that we may have been used to some years ago. Let’s see if Tiafoe can capitalize and book his spot in the quarterfinals at the 2023 Acapulco Open.

Feliciano Lopez pulled off the upset on Eubanks, managing to win despite being ranked outside the top 1000 in today’s ATP rankings. Despite Lopez being a former top 10 player, he is very close to retirement and Frances Tiafoe is playing some great tennis at the moment, so I don’t expect Lopez to be able to do all that much to resist the American as these two clash for a place in the last eight of the 2023 Acapulco Open.

Frances Tiafoe and Feliciano Lopez have met once before, with Feliciano Lopez leading the head to head 1-0. Lopez took out Tiafoe when he was much younger, about four and half years ago in Antwerp. Tiafoe is by far the better player at the moment, and I can’t see any other result than for Tiafoe to come away with this one in straight sets as he looks ahead to the quarterfinals here at the 2023 Acapulco Open.
