TennisSection previews the 2022 Paris Masters as Cameron Norrie takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round on Monday, October 31st, 2022.
After seeing his hopes to secure Turin qualification go up in smoke, Cameron Norrie is targeting a strong finish at the Paris Masters. The Briton faces a resurgent Miomir Kecmanovic in a tough opener. Who will prevail?
Cameron Norrie will not be playing at the ATP Finals this year. The Briton’s indifferent form during the indoor swing cost him a place among the elite eight. After pulling out from the Korean Open due to a positive Covid-19 test, Norrie has clearly not been the same player. Early defeats in Stockholm and more recently to Marcos Giron in Vienna have put the final nail on his coffin. Nonetheless he should be pretty pleased with his performancesthroughout the season. And it would have been a different storyaltogether had Wimbledon accounted for points in 2022, considering that he reached his first Grand Slam semifinal back in July.
Miomir Kecamnovic, meanwhile, suffered a serious drubbing at the hands of the in-form Auger-Aliassime in Basel. The Serbian was blown away 6-1 6-0 in just 49 minutes and truth be told, he will still be licking his wounds when he arrives at the Paris Masters. Cameron Norrie will have the chance to rub salt to the wound in this match as he aims for a strong finish to his season. Both players should be happy with their 2022 season. Kecmanovic will now get that seeding spot at next year’s Australian Open and will be a dangerous fodder in the draw.
Cameron Norrie leads Miomir Kecmanovic 1-0 in their head-to-head. He won their clash at St. Petersburg in 2020 in a tight three-setter. I honestly can’t see how the Serbian will bounce back from that humiliating defeat in Basel. Granted Norrie is not in great form either, he should be slightly favored to win on his return to the Paris Masters.
