TennisSection previews the 2022 Gijon Open as Sebastian Korda takes on Arthur Rinderknech in the semifinal on Saturday, October 15th, 2022.

Sebastian Korda has the chance to resuscitate his season and win his first title of the season. But to get to the championship match, the American will first need to take down Arthur Rinderknech who scored a terrific win over the second seed Carreno Busta. Who will book their spot in the championship match?
Sebastian Korda overcame a second-set blip to down Andy Murray 6-4 1-6 6-1 to reach his first semifinal since Estoril at the end of April. Korda was a step ahead of Murray at the Gijon Open in almost every department. He fashioned 14 break points and converted four. He also hammered seven aces and landed 94% first serves. While such numbers will create room for optimism, Korda will face his first acid test against the in-form Arthur Rinderknech on Saturday.

Arthur Rinderknech, meanwhile, shocked Pablo Carreno Bustain a titanic three-setter on Friday afternoon at the Gijon Open. Carreno Busta, the number two seed, wasted nine match points as the match clocked three hours, with the two players playing an absurd third-set tiebreak that finished 18-16 in favor of the Frenchman. Rinerknech has been a serving monster this week, averaging at least 10 aces across three matches, beating the likes of Carlos Taberner, Constant Lestienne and the World No. 15 Carreno Busta. Will he top it off by reaching his second final of the season?
Sebastian Korda and Arthur Rinderknech will meet for the first time at the Gijon Open. Both players have enjoyed playing indoors, with Rinderknech in particular showcasing his mental fortitude in the face of adversity in his quarterfinal match. This is the kind of match that could drift either way. Both players have performed solidly to get to this stage, but the Frenchman has to favored to advance into the final. His serve has been near-impregnable and has barely suffered from any lapses in concentration throughout the week.
