TennisSection previews the 2022 US Open as Rafael Nadal takes on Richard Gasquet in the Round of 32 on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022.
Will Rafael Nadal get the win? Will Richard Gasquet pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the 2nd seed looking to beat Gasquet for the 18th time in a row. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 16 at the 2022 US Open?
Rafael Nadal had a very tricky match with Fabio Fognini, playing some awful tennis in the first 2 sets, before somewhat getting a hold on his level, but still not particularly impressive. Although he didn’t play all that well, Richard Gasquet is probably the best opponent on the ATP Tour for Nadal to face, Nadal will have a gameplan going into this one, and unless his level drops further, I can’t see him having any trouble in this contest as the two clash for a spot in the last 16 at the 2022 US Open.
Richard Gasquet got a great win over 32nd seed Kecmanovic, taking him down in 4 sets to book a meeting against his toughest opponent, Rafael Nadal. If he wants to win this one, there’s no other way but to hope that Nadal is not playing well in the slightest, but even if Nadal is off his game, this is a horrible matchup for Gasquet, with Nadal being able to bully the backhand of Gasquet despite how good it is, and the forehand of the Frenchman hardly being able to compensate for the lack of aggression off his backhand wing when playing Nadal. Let’s see if he can somehow stay in this one at the 2022 US Open.
Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet have met seventeen times before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 17-0. In one of the most lopsided head to heads in ATP Tour history, Gasquet has barely even won sets off Nadal. On the hard courts of New York, there’s nothing to suggest that Nadal will face any adversity in this 3rd round clash aside from problems on his own side of the court. Let’s see if the Spaniard can keep going and move through to the fourth round at the 2022 US Open.
