Aslan Karatsev scored a very good victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili, taking him down 6-4 6-0 to set up a meeting with Daniel Elahi Galan, a tough clay court opponent. In order to take him down, he’ll have to produce his best clay court tennis, the type of game that saw him take out Novak Djokovic on the surface last year. I expect him to be able to carry that form of his first round over as he aims to take down Daniel Elahi Galan and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Hamburg Open.
Daniel Elahi Galan took down Federico Coria, a great player on the red clay and someone who should be giving Galan some confidence as he faces the shaky as ever Aslan Karatsev. At his best, few players on the ATP Tour would be able to take down Karatsev, but at his worst, he is very susceptible to some shock losses. While it would be an upset should he crash out here, it wouldn’t be all that surprising as Galan aims to move on to the last eight of the 2022 Hamburg Open.
Aslan Karatsev and Daniel Elahi Galan have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Galan will have to play outside of his comfort zone if he wants a chance at taking down Aslan Karatsev. In order to do that effectively, he will need to stay in the rallies and make sure Karatsev doesn’t have any opportunities to be aggressive as he was in his first round match as he aims to pull off the upset and move on to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Hamburg Open.
