Will Novak Djokovic get the win? Will Lorenzo Musetti pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have the World No. 1 returning to tennis after some national controversy taking on a young and talented shotmaker. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Dubai Open?
Novak Djokovic has been shrouded in controversy as of late, but for now the World No. 1 just wants to return to playing tennis. He can do so here in Dubai, where he aims to hold on to the top spot on the ATP rankings. Ahead of him stands Lorenzo Musetti, a young player who already has some history on the tennis court with Novak. He may be a little rusty, who can know, but I think he will be out for blood this week as he chases the trophy.
Lorenzo Musetti hasn’t been playing too well as of late, definitely not in shape to take on Novak Djokovic. He managed to take a 2 set lead on him in Paris, but he was certainly lucky against a sub-par Djokovic. I don’t expect him to be able to produce nearly the same tennis, despite the fact that Djokovic may be a little rusty, especially mentally. He’ll mostly still be in great shape though, if not even more motivated to take the title, let’s see if he can get a good start and propel himself into the Round of 16 at the 2022 Dubai Open.
Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti have met once before, with Novak Djokovic leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came in Roland Garros last year, with Musetti winning the first 2 sets in their fourth round encounter 7-6 7-6, before Djokovic stormed back winning the next sets quite easily. It was a strange match for sure, but I don’t expect too many strange things in this match, moreso a relatively straightforward win for Djokovic as he aims to move through to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Dubai Open to get a good start to his campaign here as he aims to remain at the top of the ATP rankings.
