Miomir Kecmanovic got an excellent win in his first match by taking down Lorenzo Sonego once more. He’s set himself up with yet another tough one coming up against young Argentine in Francsico Cerundolo. This one is definitely more in his hands than the last one, considering Sonego is ranked much more highly and has done more damage on the clay recently. Cerundolo is still a formidable opponent on this surface though, and Kecmanovic will have a tough one ahead of him as he aims to move through to the semifinals of the 2022 Rio Open.
Francisco Cerundolo was scheduled to play Casper Ruud, but lucked out when their match was cancelled. He instead got a solid win to kick off his campaign here, allowing his opponent to only take 5 games from him. Cerundolo set up quite a tough match up with Miomir Kecmanovic, a player in very good form himself. Cerundolo has a shot, but seeing as Kecmanovic took down Sonego in straights, he looks to be the favorite to take this one, but not without a little bit of trouble as he looks to progress to the last four of the 2022 Rio Open.
Miomir Kecmanovic and Francisco Cerundolo have met once before, with Francisco Cerundolo leading the head to head 1-0. The head to head would definitely imply Cerundolo will have a very strong say in this match, considering they only met a week prior with Cerundolo taking it in 3 sets. However, Kecmanovic took down Sonego, showing off his incredible form. He’s ranked more highly for a reason, and I believe he will take this one in a tight 3 sets to move through to the semifinals at the 2022 Rio Open.
