TennisSection previews the 2021 Antwerp Open as Jannik Sinner (1) meets Arthur Rinderknech in the Quarter-Finals on Friday October 22nd, 2021.
Can the young phenom Jannik Sinner continue his fine play as he seek to win his fourth title of the 2021 season? Or will the unseeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech cause the shocking upset? The two players will do battle in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Antwerp Open Belgium with a Semi-Final spot up for grabs. The Italian is the obvious favourite on paper, will it play out that way with him moving on?
Jannik Sinner is the number one seed here at the 2021 Antwerp Open and is currently ranked #13 in the world. The young Italian superstar has long been touted as one of the best young players on the ATP Tour and he has certainly been making good of the talent, breaking into the top 15 for the first time this season and already winning three ATP titles. After receiving a bye in the First Round he defeated his countryman Lorenzo Musetti (another rising star) in straight sets, showing his dominance from the baseline with numerous winners from both sides. His heavy baseline game is extremely effective on this surface and his serve has been improving a rapid rate. He is the big favourite to win this match against Arthur Rinderknech and also to go on and win the entire tournament here in Antwerp.
Arthur Rinderknech is ranked #65 in the world and is unseeded here at the 2021 Antwerp Open. The 26 year old Frenchman has been very solid over the past few years and has moved from a decent Challenger Tour player to competing consistently on the ATP Tour. The highlight of his season was a Semi-Final appearance at the Generali Open a few weeks ago, and he started strongly here in Antwerp, defeating Federico Delbonis and Susan Lajovic to reach the Quarters. He was very mentally strong against Lajovic, recovering well after losing the second set to win in three. His best bet here against Jannik Sinner is to try to remain patient, and keep his error count low. He doesn’t have the firepower to keep up with the Italian so he has to try to force him into making some mistakes if he wants to have any shot of advancing here.
This will be the second meeting between the two players, with Arthur Rinderknech leading the head to head series 1-0. The Frenchman surprisingly won earlier this year in Lyon, defeating Jannik Sinner in three gruelling sets. However, I think that result was an anomaly, and the Italian is by far the better and accomplished player. The Frenchman is a very solid player that has done very well over the past few seasons, but he is simply no match for Sinner here. Jannik Sinner has too much firepower and will likely blow his opponent off the court and win here, advancing to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Antwerp Open.
