TennisSection previews the 2021 Cincinnati Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Sebastian Korda in the Second Round on Wednesday August 18th, 2021.
A very exciting match is expected as Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas will face fast-rising American star Sebastian Korda for a spot in the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. Both men are similar in terms of stature and game style, and tennis fans are in for a huge treat here, as this is not a match that they will want to miss. Tsitsipas is the clear favorite on paper, but the young American has proven that he has what it takes to compete with the world’s best, and should not be underestimated. Can he claim the biggest win of his career and advance here?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked a career-high #3 on the ATP Tour, and is the second seed here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. The Greek started the year strongly, and reached his first Grand Slam Final at the French Open, narrowly losing to Novak Djokovic after dominating much of the match. He went into a prolonged slump after that, losing early at both Wimbledon and the Olympics. However, he regained some form last week at the Rogers Cup, where he surprisingly lost to Reilly Opelka after winning the first set. Along with Daniil Medvedev he is the favorite to lift the trophy here in Cincinnati and will be eager to win his second Masters-1000 title after the Monte-Carlo Masters. He enters this match against Sebastian Korda as the favorite, but could be in for a stern test here.
Sebastian Korda is unseeded here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open and is ranked #45 in the world. The American has turned heads with some impressive performances over the past two seasons. He reached his first ATP Final earlier in the year in Delray Beach and followed it up with a Quarter-Final run at the Miami Masters. He then won his first ATP title on the clay courts of Parma, proving that he is indeed an all-court player. He was impressive in his First Round win here over Laslo Djere, but knows that he is in for a very tough day at the office against Stefanos Tsitsipas, and enters this match as the big underdog. Tsitsipas has been known to lose focus early on in tournaments, so the young American needs to be ready and willing to take advantage.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and I expect it to be an entertaining one between two very talented shot makers. Despite both players being in good form, I am expecting this match to be one way traffic, with Stefanos Tsitsipas getting the straight sets win. Sebastian Korda is not yet experienced enough to be able to sustain a high enough level to defeat the Greek, and while he may be in the match for periods, it is very unlikely that anything will come of it. Expect Stefanos Tsitsipas to get the win here, advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Cincinnati Open in straight sets.
