TennisSection previews the 2021 Gstaad Open as Casper Ruud (3) takes on Vit Kopriva (Q) in the Semi-Finals on Saturday, July 24th, 2021.
Will Vit Kopriva shock us all once again as he aims to cause a third upset in a row, but this time against the most in form player on clay in the last couple of weeks? Will Casper Ruud continu to cruise through his matches as he wants to get himself in the final to get his second title in two weeks? Anything can happen in this match as Kopriva has shocked us all week, but only one player will make it to the Final of the 2021 Gstaad Open. Who will it be?
Vit Kopriva absolutely dominated his match in the Quarter-Finals against Mikael Ymer, beating the very tough Ymer in straight sets 6-1/6-0. Vit Kopriva is playing like he has nothing to lose and this mentality has allowed him to play with freedom and dominate matches against opponents. Kopriva has now won two great upsets in a row, beating Denis Shapovalov before Mikael Ymer. Vit Kopriva will want to make it a hattrick of upsets but he will have to raise his level even more as he meets Casper Ruud here at the 2021 Gstaad Open.
Casper Ruud put on a solid performance in yet another match on clay this month, beating the experienced and somewhat in form Benoit Paire in 3 sets, 6-2/5-7/6-3. Casper Ruud is the man of the moment in these small ATP 250 tournaments and he will know that the more he wins in these smaller tournaments, the more he will believe he can get as far if not further in bigger tournaments. Casper Ruud is so powerful from the baseline and he has such heavy spin on his shots that it is hard to keep up with him and his stamina. Vit Kopriva is definitely a man on a mission but Ruud will know that he needs to be at his best here at the 2021 Gstaad Open to prevent the upset.
Casper Ruud and Vit Kopriva have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. Vit Kopriva will have incredible belief in himself right now after getting two huge wins under his belt in his first ever tournament on the ATP Tour. However, Casper Ruud is in much better form than Denis Shapovalov and Mikael Ymer. Casper Ruud has won 2 titles this year and he knows that he is the favourite for the title here in Gstaad. Vit will try and get everything out of this match as he has nothing to lose, but it won’t be enough and his amazing form will run out. Casper Ruud will win this match in straight sets and make his way to the Final of the 2021 Gstaad Open.
