TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (16) meets Ana Bogdan in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, June 29th 2021.
Will Ana Bodgan be ready from the get go to perform strongly on grass after not having played any matches in the last 3 weeks or so? Will Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova put on another solid run at a Grand Slam after she finally made her first Final earlier this month at the French Open. Both players will make this match a very interesting one, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Ana Bodgan has not really played much this month after she made the Round of 32 at the French Open and I think this will be a bit of a bad thing for her. Getting accustom to grass does not only happen in training, you need to get one or two full matches under your belt to ensure you are ready for the pressure. Ana will also face a tough opponent right from the start in Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, meaning that she will have to be even better than usual. Is this tough challenge going to be achieved by Bogdan?
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova did not have a strong start to her grass court season last week in Eastbourne, losing in the Round of 32 to Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets 1-6/3-6. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will want to find the same level of tennis she showed at the French Open where she finally made her Grand Slam breakthrough by reaching the Final for the first time. Anastasia will know that it is almost unachievable to do the impossible two Grand Slams in a row, but if she is able to get some solid wins under her belt early against the likes of Ana Bogdan she can build her confidence and momentum at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Ana Bogdan have met 1 time before, with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova leading the head to head 1-0. They met in 2019 where Pavlyuchenkova destroyed her in straight sets 6-0/6-1. I would expect another win for Anastasia who will be determined to give it her best, but I am unsure whether it will be straight sets or 3 sets. Nonetheless, Anastasia should get the win here and make her way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships through her powerful game.
