TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Alexander Zverev (4) meets Tallon Griekspoor (Q) in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, June 29th 2021.
Will the qualifier, Tallon Griekspoor, get the biggest win of his career under his belt by shocking us all? Will Alexander Zverev begin his Wimbledon campaign off strongly as he looks to be the top guy in this side of the draw? This will be an interesting match to see where Zverev’s level is at. How dominant will he be, or will we see an early upset?
Tallon Griekspoor is an unknown player, mainly focusing on Challenger Tour tournaments where he can compete. On the main ATP Tour, Griekspoor has played 16 matches, only winning 4 of them. Now at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Tallon Griekspoor has been handed a very tough draw from the start as he meets Alexander Zverev. If he wants to get anything going here, he needs to be at his absolute best, but even with that, there is no guarantee that it is enough against such an experienced opponent.
Alexander Zverev did not have the best start to his grass court season this year, going 1-1 at the Halle Open, losing to Ugo Humbert in the Round of 16. Alexander Zverev knows he can compete in big tournaments now, having made the it to either the Semi-finals or Final of 2 of his last 3 Grand Slams, but if he is to do that here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, he needs to play much better on this surface. We have not seen Zverev have much success at Wimbledon in the past, losing in early rounds, but this year it should be different. We would be all shocked if he lost to Tallon Griekspoor so early on in the tournament.
Alexander Zverev and Tallon Griekspoor have never met before, with this being their first meeting. Although Tallon has nothing to lose and will want to be making a name for himself, I don’t see his best game standing any chance against Zverev. Zverev has been on top of his game in the last 2 months, and he will want to keep this big tournament level going. Tallon can only pray that Zverev is a bit rusty and might give him a few games, but other than that, I see Alexander Zverev making his way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
