Cameron Norrie had to battle back from a set down in the Round of 64, beating Lloyd Harris in 4 sets 4-6/6-3/6-3/6-2. Cameron started the match off slowly, but he was eventually able to find his rhythm and get the match under control after the first set finished. Cameron Norrie had a great chance of winning here as he is a lefty and he is able to move opponents in positions they usually don’t like playing in. However, he will now meet another lefty, and the best lefty to have ever played, in Rafael Nadal. Can Cameron Norrie shock us all and knock Nadal out of the draw in what would be the most shocking loss of Nadal’s career on clay?
Rafael Nadal extended his head to head lead against Richard Gasquet to a record 17-0 in the Round of 64, beating the Frenchman in straight sets, 6-0/7-5/6-2. Rafael Nadal was in great form and he will be very happy with that performance. However, knowing Nadal, we know that he will be looking at every aspect of his game and what he can do better to be even more dominating in this next match. This is not going to be a good thing for Cameron Norrie as Rafael Nadal is only improving here at the 2021 French Open, and he will be determined to continue dominating as he looks to continue his 14th Roland Garros title campaign alive.
Rafael Nadal and Cameron Norrie have met 2 times before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 2-0. They met both times this year, once on hard and once on clay. Nadal won both of those matches in straight sets and he will know that here on clay he will have a higher chance to continue that domination over Cameron Norrie. Here at Roland Garros there is only 1 name that can even be considered to be able to beat Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and it is hard to see anyone else in the tournament being able to even take a set off the Spaniard. This will be a Nadal domination as usual.
