Norbert Gombos beat the up and coming Emil Ruusuvuori in the Round of 32 in 3 tight sets 7-6/5-7/6-3. The match was tight from start to finish, but I think the experience of Norbert Gombos, although not the best experience, proved to be too much for the young Finn. Norbert Gombos is ranked 87 in the ATP Rankings but he is mainly challenging in Challenger Tour tournaments to maintain his ranking. Norbert will be determined to get some more positive results under his belt here at the 2021 Parma Open to prepare himself for Roland Garros next week. Can he beat the in form Albert Ramos-Vinolas here?
Albert Ramos-Vinolas has been in great form all year on clay, reaching the late stages of most clay tournaments he has participated in in 2021. Most recently, Albert Ramos-Vinolas won the 2021 Estoril Open to show us he is still competitive. Albert is also quite underrated when you think about it, which is shocking for someone who has such an amazing return game on clay as well as having the stamina to outwear opponents in very ling matches. Albert will want to get his game at its best here at the 2021 Parma Open to ensure he can be very competitive next week at Roland Garros, and I am sure he will be confident in his ability to beat the likes of Norbert Gombos and the rest of the field here.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Norbert Gombos have met 2 times before, with Albert Ramos-Vinolas leading the head to head 2-0. They last met earlier this year at the Marbella Open where Albert won in 3 sets 6-7/7-5/6-4. That was a very tight match, however, this time I see Albert Ramos-Vinolas getting the win in straight sets. Gombos is lucky to even be here and I don’t see him being able to hang with the Spaniard who has recently won his first title of the year.
