Will Lorenzo Musetti give the Italian crowd something to cheer about as he looks to put on another superb performance here at the Rome Open as he did last year? Will Hubert Hurkacz build the momentum up again after a bit of a lull period since he won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Miami just over a month ago? Both players can win this match if they are on top of their game, but only one will make their way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 Rome Open. Who will it be?
Lorenzo Musetti will be looking to get some more solid performances under his belt here at the 2021 Rome Open as he will remember his amazing performances here last year when he beat the likes of Stan Wawrinka. Lorenzo is a great talent and he has so much potential, however, he is still lacking behind his other Italian youngster, Jannik Sinner. Lorenzo Musetti knows that he needs to get some big wins under his belt against big named players to give him the belief that he can make the late stages of these big tournaments consistently. However, Lorenzo now meets a tough opponent in Hubert Hurkacz in the Round of 64.
Hubert Hurkacz will be wanting to bounce back after not having played at his best for a while, going 1-2 in his last two tournaments since he won his maiden Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open just over a month ago. Hubert is a very big swinger, and he is obviously more suited for hard court and indoor hard court conditions, however, we have to remember that he has put on some solid performances on clay, such as when he beat Andrey Rublev here at the Rome Open last year. Hurkacz will want to show us that he was not a one-big tournament wonder, and that he can maintain a high-level, but he has to make sure he’s ready right from the start as he now meets Lorenzo Musetti.
Hubert Hurkacz and Lorenzo Musetti have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. This is definitely going to be a very tight match as both players are great players, but basing this prediction on recent form on clay, and also the desire to win, I think I see Lorenzo Musetti causing the upset here. Hurkacz is not a clay-court player, whilst Musetti is, and here at the 2021 Rome Open, in Musetti’s home country, he will want to impress again as he did last year.
