Will Denis Shapovalov be able to bounce back after a tough loss against Lloyd Harris last week in the Semi-finals of the Dubai Open? Will Ilya Ivashka be able to come out here and use his momentum gained in his First Round victory to potentially cause the upset against one of the Top Seeds here in Miami? Both players can get the job done in this match if they are on top of their game, but in tennis, there are no draws. Who will make their way to the Third Round?
Ilya Ivashka put on a solid performance in the First Round, beating Soonwoo Kwon in 3 sets, 7-6(4)/(4)6-7/7-6(3). Ilya Ivashka is definitely someone to look out for in smaller ATP 250 tournaments where big name players are most likely not playing as he can make his way to the later rounds. Ivashka showed us this many times last year, but in 2021, he has not replicated his consistency of 2020. Ivashka will be feeling very confident coming off a strong victory in the First Round against Kwon. However, Ivashka will also need to know that he will have to raise his level a lot coming into this Second Round match as he will meet a very motivated and in form Denis Shapovalov. Can Ilya Ivashka come out here and cause the upset in the Second Round of the 2021 Miami Open?
Denis Shapovalov will be looking for a nice bounce back victory here in Miami after he lost his Semi-final match against Lloyd Harris last week at the Dubai Open in shocking fashion. Shapovalov went a set and a break up and then just was not able to maintain the consistency required to keep up with the in form South African. Harris was eventually able to bounce back and win the match in a third set tiebreak to book his spot in the Final. Shapovalov would have most likely won the title had he reached the Final as he had been the best player in Dubai all week, but this is why tennis is a brutal sport. If you don’t maintain the consistency, you will not succeed. Can Shapovalov bounce back against Ilya Ivashka in this Second Round of the 2021 Miami Open?
Denis Shapovalov and Ilya Ivashka have met twice before, with Denis Shapovalov leading the head to head 2-0. TBU has played a great match in the first round for sure, but I just do not see him getting anything going against the very motivated and in form Canadian here. Shapovalov will want to bounce back, and he will not let himself lose two matches in a row which he should win. Shapovalov will come out here in this Second Round match and look for it to be over quickly. I am not fully confident in a straight sets victory, but I am very confident in a Denis Shapovalov victory.
